OUR TUSCANY TOUR

Every autumn we offer this casual travel adventure to the most beautiful region of Italy. By maintaining a home base at Historic Villa La Gigliola in Montespertoli, The Wine Town, (halfway between Firenze and Siena) we have the ability to branch out and enjoy the scenes, food, wine and shopping in both villages as well as cities. Each day will be a planned outing to a local town for exploring, wineries, churches, olive oil producers, and museums. Our tour is very personal and limited to six couples. Each day after our short excursions we return to our villa dating back to the 1300s for a swim in the beautiful private pool, antipasti, and a special dinner prepared by our own local chef. Costs per couple are only $4400 (with a $100 early registration discount) Reach us at 313-300-3401 cascomgrp@aol.com and we’ll send you an updated itinerary and brochure.

Cascom Group Travel/Tuscan Holiday

It’s time to think about returning again to the Villa La Gigliola in the heart of Chianti. We have had such a wonderful time in past years that we intend to again offer this casual travel adventure to the most beautiful region of Italy…Tuscany. By maintaining a home base at Villa La Gigliola in Montespertoli,

For those who would like to just sit around by the pool, read a book and enjoy the beautiful vistas, we have a great place to call home. We’ll start each day with a European breakfast of fresh pastries from the local town, fruit, yogurt, cereal and coffee, discuss our plans, then head off by car for a day adventure. There is never any pressure to tour with the group, however IF you wish to tag along, we’ll have some great places to visit. Because each day we may not be all together, lunch expenses are not included. Each day we will return to Villa La Gigliola to relax, enjoy the pristine pool, some local wine, and trade tales. Each evening (except Sat.) at the villa, dinner will be included, prepared by local chefs at our own estate. We have tried to include most expenses (including tips) in the price per couple. However, additional expenses (that we can’t control) such as transportation to and from airports, rental cars, lunches away, winery and museum fees, or dinners away from the villa are not included.

Our accommodations are in the beautiful Villa La Gigliola. This 750 acre wine estate (owned by Anna Piazzini ) dates back to the 1300s and is located near the picturesque village of Montespertoli. Villa La Gigliola is a working winery and we will tour and have access to the grounds. The Villa is approached through an electronic wrought iron gate, and surrounded by beautiful views of the Tuscan valleys with views of hill town towers in the distance. The rooms are tastefully furnished. There are seven bedrooms with a private bath in each room. The Villa has large rooms, and original oil paintings, however like most Italian villas, it does not have air conditioning, and is not the same as an American hotel. There will be no maids to furnish fresh sheets and towels each day.

“Snap-shot” tentative Itinerary

Meet at 9-10 am at rental car office in Fumicino airport to pick up cars and take care of paper work. Caravan to Montespertoli. Before we take over possession of the villa at 3 pm, we will stop in the local Coop. Each car will have a shopping list of supplies we will need. This will be a fun adventure because the staff does not speak English at the coop. Next we will arrive at Villa La Gigliola, explore the grounds, and later enjoy meeting each other over antipasti and local wine. At 7:30 we’re off to our first Italian dinner at C’ Era Una Volta (“Once Upon a Time”) in the nearby town of Lucardo. We’ll dine with a typical five course Tuscan dinner overlooking our lovely valley (if the weather cooperates). Because this dinner is away from the villa, the cost will be around 50 euro each……however, this year your tour guides will pick up half of your tab.

Enjoy breakfast of coffee/juice/fruit/delicious local pastries. We’ll head out along a beautiful drive to San Gimignano (35 klm south) local town where “Life is Beautiful” was filmed, lots of shops, restaurants, and a 12th century basilica with very interesting frescos, plus Italy’s “most famous gelateria” This town has been called one of the most beautiful in all of Italy. Our beautiful guide will show us the sights and treasures of Siena, the Duomo, and explain all about the Palio. Tonight we are invited by Anna Piazzini to a special estate tasting The estate’s sommelier will present her Tuscan Chiantis, olive oil and grappa, We will also enjoy antipasti and a light pasta meal prepared by La Gigliola’s local chef and crew.

Early breakfast, then hit the road for Volterra, a beautiful walled town, carved out of volcanic rock. This high town was founded by the mysterious Etruscans, and has one of the best Etruscan museums in Italy. Volterra is also the center of alabaster craftsmanship. You will love the many shops. Lunch outside the Museo Etrusco Guarnacci at the Pizzeria il Rifugio or many other trattoria. After lunch we’ll visit the Roman amphitheatre then head back to the villa for a five course dinner by our local chef.

We can visit San Lorenzo, central market, straw market, lots of shops, or pick up tickets and see the Ufizzi Galleries, and lunch at a local trattoria. We’ll be exhausted and return by the same bus to our villa. Next, a dip in pool, then antipasti time before dinner by our local chef.

Castello di Verrazzano winery where we will have a tour and fabulous lunch (60 Euro each) Again, your hosts will cover half of your charges. Return to Villa to write postcards by the pool. Tonight we return as Anna’s guests again for a sumptuous Italian festa. We’ll dine at long tables with music, dancing, entertainment, international guests and treasured memories.

First a short tour of the Montepertoli Wine Museum…….quick tour because everything is in Italian…..then we’re off to visit the fabulous grounds of the Antinori wine family. (the Antinori Family business is the oldest corporation in the world 1385 ) Marchese Piero Antinori is the patriarch who first developed the concept of the world famous SUPER TUSCAN blend. www.italianwinemerchants.com/antinori-s/161.htm The grounds and winery are ultra modern and very unique. (many of the grape vines are on top of the winery) The Antinori vineyard has a beautiful restaurant where we can have lunch if you wish. After our wine tour, we will return to the villa for roasted sausages (from the local sausage maker in town) on our hearth plus other dishes we will prepare together.

Sorry to say goodbye as we get packed up and vacate the villa by noon.

Many travelers choose to spend Sat night in Firenze. We have a beautiful hotel (Palazzo Benci) located near the central market in the heart of Firenze. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-382161-palazzo_benci_hotel-i

our favorite trattoria “I Due G” Via Cennini or Trattoria Antichi Cancelli, (73R Via Faenza) are nearby.

As you can see, our tour package is very personal. Our fee : $4400 PER COUPLE However, we have tried to compensate for this by paying half of some restaurant/winery tour costs

This itinerary is tentative and may change when we get closer to the event. Your suggestions are always welcome. We look forward to your participation. Doug & Mary Beth Cordier. 8013 Meadow Rush,
